Nirmala Sitharaman Arrives in Guwahati; Heads to Meghalaya for Official Visit

The Finance Minister was warmly received at the airport by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who welcomed her on behalf of the people of the state.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived at Guwahati airport on Thursday, marking the beginning of her official four-day Meghalaya visit. The Finance Minister was warmly received at the airport by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who welcomed her on behalf of the people of the state.

Following the reception, the Finance Minister immediately departed for Meghalaya under tight security arrangements. Her visit to Meghalaya will span four days, during which she is scheduled to attend a series of official programs and engagements, including the Northeast Conclave.

According to reports, she will inaugurate the Polo Shopping Complex and later interact with interns of the Project Monitoring Information System (PMIS).

On July 11, Sitharaman will inaugurate the Northeast Conclave and lay the foundation stone for the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) campus at IIM Shillong.

Sitharaman will also visit Shillong Tech Park at Umsawli and inaugurate an exhibition showcasing products of farmers and entrepreneurs at the Lariti International Centre.

The minister's itinerary includes a series of development-focused interactions with various stakeholders.

On July 12, Sitharaman will meet industry leaders at Courtyard Marriott in Shillong, followed by interactions with Women Self-Help Groups, 'Lakhpati Didis', and farmer producer organisations (FPOs) in Laitkynsew village.

Later, she will meet beneficiaries of the Payment for Ecosystem Services Programme in Siej village and participate in a public programme at Sohbar village near the Indo-Bangladesh border, also identified as one of the 96 identified Vibrant Villages.

She will visit Ramakrishna Mission School in Sohra on July 13, before departing. 

As per reports, her visit is aimed at reviewing development initiatives, promoting entrepreneurship, and strengthening engagement with local communities in Meghalaya. 

The minister's itinerary includes events from today through July 13. After concluding her commitments in Meghalaya, Sitharaman will return to New Delhi.
