Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi has launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led state government over the alleged disbursal of Rs 50 lakh in public funds to a minister for a private dairy farm. The revelation has sparked sharp criticism, with Gogoi accusing the government of misusing taxpayer money to benefit those in power.
In a strongly worded post on 'X', Gogoi wrote, “₹50 lakh of taxpayer money was handed to a minister for his private dairy farm in Assam. The Chief Minister’s brazen response? ‘What will they do after losing power?’”
The Congress MP further alleged that this was not an isolated incident. “This isn’t the first time those close to this government have reaped outsized benefits,” he said.
Criticising the government’s priorities, Gogoi lamented the exclusion of the underprivileged and marginalised communities from developmental schemes. “Meanwhile, those who truly need support – first-generation entrepreneurs, small farmers, the poor and marginalised – are left fighting for their rightful share, excluded from schemes meant to uplift them,” he said.
He described the situation as a betrayal of democratic responsibilities. “This is not governance, but rather a betrayal of the oath of office,” Gogoi added. “Public money is misused to secure private futures, and power is treated as entitlement, not responsibility.”
Gaurav Gogoi's remarks comes in the backdrop of a major controversy erupting over the allocation of a government-subsidised dairy development scheme worth Rs 50 lakh to various individuals in Assam. Reportedly, the beneficiaries of the scheme incldue wives of influential ministers and senior BJP legislators, PWD contractors, and even owners of private hospitals, luxury restaurants, and cinema halls.
