According to reports, the minor girl, who had lost her mother, was alone at home when the incident took place. Her father had stepped out briefly for work. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused, a neighbour, forcibly entered the house and allegedly raped the child multiple times.

Hearing the child’s screams, locals rushed to the spot. As Asharam tried to flee, the enraged residents chased him down, assaulted him, and handed him over to the police. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and tension in the area.

One local resident claimed that Asharam Keot had a prior history of inappropriate behaviour. “We want strict punishment. He should be hanged so the girl gets justice and no such incident happens again,” the resident said, demanding swift action from the police.

Meanwhile, the condition of the survivor is said to be critical. She has been admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where she is currently battling for her life.

Police have taken the accused into custody, and an investigation is underway.
