A major scam under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) has come to light in the BTAD region, where funds meant for poor beneficiaries were allegedly siphoned off by a local official.

The incident took place in Jangal Borigaon under the Udalguri district's VCDC (Village Council Development Committee) area. According to reports, Raghu Munda, a resident of the village, was allotted a house under the PMAY scheme three years ago. However, instead of receiving a completed home, his family has been left in distress.

The VCDC President, Anjali Rabha, allegedly collected the sanctioned funds from Raghu in multiple instalments, promising to construct the house. She reportedly took money in three separate phases but left the house incomplete and abandoned the work midway.

With no roof over their heads, Raghu's family was forced to take shelter in someone else’s home. Eventually, Raghu had to leave his wife behind and migrate out of the state in search of work due to the financial burden.

In a heartbreaking appeal captured on camera, Raghu’s wife is seen in tears, pleading with Anjali Rabha to complete the construction of their home. Despite repeated requests, no help has been extended so far.

This case has sparked outrage in the area, raising serious questions about the implementation of welfare schemes and the accountability of local administrative bodies.
