Leaders including Debabrata Saikia, Rakibul Hussain, and Rekibuddin Ahmed also arrived to offer condolences. Due to the presence of political leaders from opposing camps, special arrangements were made to seat them in separate rooms—Sonowal was accommodated on the upper floor, while Gogoi and his Congress colleagues were received on the ground floor.

Despite arriving around the same time, the leaders maintained decorum, and as Sonowal descended from upstairs, he called out to Gaurav Gogoi and other Congress members, briefly exchanging respectful words.

Sarbananda Sonowal’s Emotional Tribute

Speaking to the media, Sarbananda Sonowal said, “It is a matter of deep sorrow that she is no longer with us. Every time I visited my friend Samujjal Bhattacharya's home, she would bless me warmly. She would say—‘Always work in harmony, serve society. Our blessings are with you.’”

He further added, “She never let me leave without offering food. She would always prepare something lovingly for me. Today, all those memories are flooding back. I pay my heartfelt tribute and pray for the peace of her departed soul.”

She breathed her last at 11:15 PM last Monday night at her residence in Guwahati’s Kahilipara.
