UNBT Urges Political Restraint to Preserve Sanctity of Thulungapuri
The Upendra Nath Brahma Trust has issued a heartfelt appeal urging all visitors and members of the media to uphold the sanctity of Thulungapuri, the eternal resting place of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, by refraining from making or soliciting political statements within its premises.
In a statement released by the Trust's Chairman, Dimacha Dwibrang Mwchahary, the organisation expressed deep gratitude to scholars, political leaders, social activists, and citizens from all walks of life who continue to visit Thulungapuri to pay homage to the iconic Bodo leader.
"Thulungapuri, developed with the collective efforts of the State Government and the people, has emerged not only as a site of homage but also as a spiritual and philosophical centre. It symbolises Bodofa's timeless message of peace, unity, and the principle of 'Live and Let Live'," the statement read.
Upendra Nath Brahma, revered across communities for his dedication to social justice and empowerment of the marginalised, has long been seen as a visionary leader beyond the bounds of party politics, a stature the Trust compared to that of Mahatma Gandhi. His philosophy continues to inspire movements rooted in justice, dignity, and equal opportunity.
However, the Trust voiced concern over recent instances where visits to Thulungapuri have been accompanied by media interactions involving political statements. Such actions, it noted, run contrary to the spirit and sanctity of the place.
"Increasingly, political comments made during such visits, whether by visitors or prompted by media queries, risk diluting the spiritual and unifying ethos of Thulungapuri. Bodofa belonged to all, and his vision transcended political boundaries," said Chairman Mwchahary.
In this context, the Trust has made a two-fold appeal:
To all visitors: Refrain from making political or politically sensitive remarks during visits to Thulungapuri.
To media personnel: Avoid posing political questions to visitors within the Thulungapuri compound.
Calling Thulungapuri a "beacon of inclusive philosophy and people's unity," the Trust emphasised the collective responsibility to preserve its sanctity.
"Let us ensure that this sacred space continues to inspire generations with Bodofa's noble ideals and remains above the fray of political discourse," the statement concluded.
Thulungapuri, located in Dotma near Kokrajhar, holds deep emotional and cultural significance for the Bodo community and beyond. As the final resting place of a leader who championed harmony and the upliftment of the marginalised, it remains a site of reflection, reverence, and unity.
