Unrepaired Embankments Flood 60 Villages in Teok, Mariani Region

The flood situation in the Teok revenue circle remains critical as several embankments of the Teok and Kakojan area, where the Puthi and Jaji rivers have been breached, inundate around 50 to 60 villages.

Locals report that years of neglect in maintaining the ring embankments of these rivers have led to widespread damage during the season’s first wave of floods. The rising river waters have overwhelmed the fragile embankments, exposing villages to severe flooding.

In particular, the situation in Uttar Dulia, under the newly formed Mariani constituency, has become alarming. The embankment on the river flowing through the Teok area, which was breached during last year’s floods, remained unrepaired. This year, surging floodwaters once again entered through the same breach, wreaking havoc and putting lives and property at serious risk.

Amid tall claims of uninterrupted development under the BJP-led government, even party workers expressed frustration on camera. They criticised the failure of the district administration and panchayat authorities to repair a barely 20-metre-long breached section of the embankment, calling it a glaring example of administrative apathy.

Locals have demanded immediate repair work and flood relief measures as water levels continue to rise.
