Assam Woman Allegedly Raped at Digboi Hotel; Staff Among 3 Arrested

In yet another alarming case of sexual violence in Assam, a young woman was allegedly raped at a private hotel in Digboi town.

The incident reportedly took place Park Inn hotel on June 15. The accused has been identified as Suraj Kairi, a resident of Lekhapani. Following a formal complaint filed by the survivor, Digboi Police arrested Kairi and initiated an investigation into the matter.

Further interrogation revealed that the hotel staff may have played a role in facilitating the crime. Based on the woman’s testimony, the police also apprehended the hotel’s manager, Nireish Baruah, and an employee, Swaptarshi Das, on charges of complicity.

All three accused have been booked under Section 64(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and have been remanded to judicial custody.

Earlier today, another alarming case emerged from Assam’s Hailakandi district. A woman was reportedly attacked inside a stationary train at Lala Railway Station in an alleged attempt to rape her. The two accused, identified as Binod Baspor and Pankaj Deb, were arrested shortly after the victim filed a complaint.
