India 130th in latest index of economic freedom

According to the latest index of economic freedom released by American think-tank 'The Heritage foundation', India has jumped 13 places in comparison to the last one year and has been placed at the 130th spot.

In 2017, India scored 52.6 points and was ranked 143 among 180 countries, two spots below Pakistan.

According to the latest index of economic freedom, Pakistan is now ranked 131. China too has jumped one spot is now ranked 110.

The report stated that economic liberalisation measures, including industrial deregulation, privatisation of state-owned enterprises and reduced controls on foreign trade and investment has been a factor in India's growth.

The report also mentioned that corruption, underdeveloped infrastructure, a restrictive and burdensome regulatory environment, and poor financial and budget management continue to undermine overall development.
