India, US to hold talks on aluminium and steel tariffs in Geneva next week

Pratidin Bureau

India and the US are set to hold consultations in Geneva next week to deliberate upon a case filed by New Delhi in the World Trade Organisation's dispute settlement mechanism. The case has been filed over the imposition of high import duties on steel and aluminium by the US.

Sources have informed that that a team of senior officials from the commerce ministry will lead the team to Geneva on July 19-20.

It may be mentioned here that India had dragged the US to the WTO dispute settlement mechanism over the imposition of import duties on steel and aluminium in May.

India has stated that the imposition of high duties would impact exports of these products to the US and is not in compliance with global trade norms.
