Actress Deepti Naval files complaint after receiving extortion threats

Pratidin Bureau

Veteran Bollywood actress-director Deepti Naval has reportedly received extortion threats, pressurizing her to pay USD 5,600 in bitcoin -nearly 0.74 bitcoin or Rs 3.9 lakh- otherwise her internet browsing history would be published.

The threat was sent through a malware scam email, following which Naval went to the police station to lodge a non-cognizable (NC) complaint about the matter with the Versova Police station. The extortionists have demanded the ransom to be sent within 24 hours.

The actress has claimed that the email contained her private information- like username, and password. The mailer also claimed to have videos of her certain browsing sites.

Naval was quoted in a TOI report, "I do not want to talk anything about it. I am relaxed now. The cops told that the mail that I have received is a trash mail and asked me to ignore it."

Reportedly, it is a scam where hackers try to dupe people by saying that they have their personal details. However, cyber cell authorities have assured that it is fake and has asked people to ignore such frauds.
