The much anticipated Sanjay Dutt's biopic 'Sanju' has dethroned Salman Khan's 'Race 3' to become the biggest opener of 2018 by grossing Rs 34.75 crore on its first day.

Film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted that the movie has become the biggest opener of 2018 despite being a non-holiday, non-festival release. He further added that the movie is expected to break the 100-crore barrier in three days.

Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the movie stars Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt along with Manisha Koirala, Anushka Sharma, Paresh Rawal, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and Jim Sarbh in pivotal roles.

Several Bollywood personalities including Karan Johar and Boman Irani have expressed their love for the movie on social media. Director Subhash Ghai has urged people, via Twitter, to go see the movie.

The biopic was released on June 29.
