Odisha Artist Creates Sand Ganesha Using 1000 Plastic Bottles

Internationallyacclaimed sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik has created a sand sculpture of LordGanesha with 1000 plastic bottles around it at Puri Beach. The plastic bottleshave been used to give a message against single-use plastic to save theenvironment.

Theartist have created the sand sculpture of Lord Ganesha on the occasion ofGanesha Chaturthi  and carries the message'Say no to single-use plastic' and 'Save our Environment' composed on it.

Pattnaiksaid that he decided the theme after being inspired by Prime Minister NarendraModi's campaign to ban single-use plastic.

PMModi gave a clarion against single-use plastic in his Mann Ki Baat radiobroadcast and his address to the nation on the Independence Day. Modi campaignedagainst the single-use plastic from October 2, on the occasion of GandhiJayanti.

Pattnaiksaid that his creation is aimed at making people aware of the ill effects ofplastic on the environment adding that plastic, if not recycles takes up to athousand years to decompose creating health hazards.

He alsostated that on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi he wants to appeal to thepeople not to use single-plastic to save the environment. He said that the10-ft high sand sculpture of Lord Ganesha was created by using 5 tonne of sandwhile about 1000 plastic bottles were installed around it.  

Mostof his sand creations are based on important social issues aimed at creatingawareness in the society.
