A freight train reportedly derailed near Guwahati's Narengi on Saturday afternoon, disrupting rail traffic in the area.

At least five coaches of the goods train derailed due to reasons unknown.

As per a report, a massive traffic jam at the Narangi-Chandrapur and Narangi-Chandmari roads occurred as it was closed to clear and repair the tracks.

The train was reportedly carrying food and other essential materials for the army at Narengi base camp.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses alleged that the incident took place due to negligence of the railway department.

The army and local police reached the spot soon after and cordoned the area as efforts were being made to clear the tracks.
