A huge quantity of illicit drugs was seized by Guwahati police during a raid in city's Lakhtokia area late Wednesday.

Two drug traffickers were arrested in connection to the case. They were identified as Mehboob Ali and Rongmala Begum.

During the raid, police recovered heroin in two soapboxes and 99 plastic vials. Cash amounting to Rs 1 lakh and three mobile phones were also recovered from their possession.

Assam police have ramped up their war against drugs in the last few months. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, after he assumed office in May this year, vowed to make Assam a drug-free state.
