COVID-19 Russia: Rich Given Early Access To Vaccine

Pratidin Bureau

In yet another instance of the high and mighty being given priority over the common people, a Bloomberg report says that scores of top politicians and businessmen in Russia were given early access to the experimental vaccine developed by the country as early as April.

The vaccine, developed by the state-run Gamaleya Institute in Moscow, has last week completed a phase 1 trial involving military personnel. The vaccine is financed by the state-run Russian Direct Investment Fund and has the backing of the Defense Ministry.

As per the report, top executives working for companies including the aluminum giant United Co. Rusal and business tycoons and government officials had gained an access to the use of vaccine quite early.

However, the report quoted Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov as saying that he didn't know the name of any person who had received the institute's vaccine.
