In a first, people above 65 can now vote via postal ballot

Pratidin Bureau

Ahead of the assembly elections in Bihar, the Election Commission said today that people above the age of 65 years will be able to vote by postal ballot. This has been announced in the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, as people above 65 are considered more vulnerable to the threat of the contagion.

As per reports, this facility will also be extended to the COVID-19 infected people living in quarantine. The decision is interesting because the postal ballot facility was so far reserved only for people above the age of 80, besides for the ones not in their home state.
