12-Year-old Child Dies at GMCH Due to Alleged Medical Negligence

In a tragic incident, a 12-year old child died at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Wednesday. The child was under treatment for 2 days at GMCH in Ward No 4 but breathed his last today.

The child identified as Nayan Kumar was suffering from fever and was admitted to GMCH on June 29. The child hailed from Rangiya.

However, the parents of the child alleged that he died due to medical negligence. "The child has been neglected by the medical team thinking that he suffered from COVID-19 for which he was not provided the relevant treatment," alleged the parents.

They also alleged that their child has to breathe his last due to the negligence of doctors and nurses.

On the other hand, the GMCH authorities denied their negligence. The Superintendent of GMCH, Dr. Abhijeet Sarma said that the child was provided with all medical assistance and he died of Brain Abscess.
