3 Govt Officers Arrested In Alleged Rice Scam

The Bureau of Investigations Economic Offences (BIEO) on Monday arrested three government officials in Guwahati for their involvement in an alleged rice scam.

While one of the accused Lakheswar Saikia is a chief commercial manager of Northeast Frontier Railways, the other two accused namely Dhirimba Hazarika and Tilak Chandra Bhattacharya are officers of the Food Corporation Of India (FCI).

According to sources, the alleged 1.2 crore rice scam dates back to 2013-2014 and came to light after an investigation was launched on the same.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) first took up the case but was later transferred to the BIEO on court's direction.
