5 Arrested In Kokrajhar Minor Sisters Death Case

In a fresh development, five persons were arrested on Sunday for their alleged involvement in the death of two minor sisters in Kokrajhar who were found hanging on a tree.

The arrestees were identified as Jahanur Islam, Mozamel Sheikh, Ataf Ali, Hanif Sheikh and Sankardev Barman.

Earlier today, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the family of the deceased and instructed authorities to unearth the cause of their death at the earliest.

He was also accompanied by BTC chief Pramod Borond Kokrajhar East MLA Sri Lawrence Islary.

CM Sarma reiterated that he came over to send across a message that the government will not tolerate any kind of atrocities against the poor and downtrodden.

" Women safety shall always remain top priority of Assam Govt. Atrocity in any form against poor too shall not be tolerated," he said.

Both the sisters were found dead under mysterious circumstances on the night of June 11 inside a forest in Abhayaukti village. They went missing on Friday afternoon.

The corpses have been sent for autopsy to the Civil Hospital in Kokrajhar.

The family of the girls had claimed that they were raped and murdered.
