AASU disappointed with NRC

TheAll Assam Students' Union (AASU) on Saturday expressed their disappointment onthe final list of National Register of Citizens (NRC). Addressing the media inGuwahati, AASU president Dipanka Kumar Nath said, "We are disappointed with theNRC as there are faults in the latest document."

However,Nath maintained that they faith in the judiciary system. "We will approach theSupreme Court to appeal for rectification of the mistakes in the NRC."

Meanwhile,AASU chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya said, "It is surprising that the finalnumber of exclusion is so less than it was originally estimated."

Onthe other hand AASU general secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi said that the Assamgovernment failed to avail the opportunity to hand the people of the state aforeigner-free NRC. "Only 75 people were referred to the Foreigners' Tribunalin the last year," added Gogoi.
