AASU organizes two-day convention to celebrate Rabha Divas

Pratidin Bureau

On the occasion of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha's 49th death anniversary, All Assam Student's Union (AASU) has organised a two-day convention at Kaliabor on June 19-20.

The Rabha Diwas celebrations were lighted up with various traditional showcases of dance and songs catering to a number of languages, tribes and society from across Assam.

AASU Advisor Samujjal Bhattacharjee said, "People should adopt Bishnu Prasad Rabha's legacy and take great motivation from his life. People of Assam should carry forward the traditions inherited by the Kalaguru."

The advisor also appealed to the government to create a memorial at the place where Bishnu Prasad Rabha was cremated. He also appealed to the government to construct a museum in his name which was announced way back but no action was initiated.

"From the last 20 years, government has promised for a memorial in Bishnu Prasad Rabha's name and announcement was made to convert it into a museum. It is a shame that Assam government has not yet been able to provide the necessary piece of land for construction," AASU General Secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi said.
