Pratidin Bureau

Members of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) have started statewide hunger strike on Monday in protest against contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. Similarly, the members of North East Students Organisation (NESO) have been visiting MPs and leaders of opposition in protest against the Bill.

The 10-hour hunger strike started from 6 AM on Monday. Members of the organisation have been staging the hunger strike at every district and sub divisional headquarters of the State. Members of Golaghat AASU, while speaking to Pratidin Time, condemned Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal's stand on the Bill.

The members of NESO on Sunday visited several political leaders and urged them to vote against the Bill if Modi-led BJP government try to push it in the Rajya Sabha.

The Citizenship Amendment Bill has already been passed at the Lok Sabhha, however the bill is yet to be passed at the Rajya Sabha.
