Adivasi Students’ Body Demands ST Status

On Thursday, All Assam Adivasi Students' Union (AAASU) Hojai unit staged a demonstration in connection with their long term demand of Scheduled Tribe status for the people of their community here.

The protest was organized at district headquarter Sankardenagar in front of deputy commissioner's office in Hojai at around 11 am.

The protest continued for three hours whereby the protesters shouted many slogans such as Assam Sankar murdabad, BJP go back.

AAASU president Brij Lal Panika and secretary Dharam Raj Gowda said that if their existence would be in danger if the Scheduled Tribe status is not provided to them at the earliest.

They also added that their population is more than 80 lakhs in Assam and contributed in every sector of society for the upliftment of state but they are still being neglected by the government in regard to their demand.

A memorandum was also forwarded to Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal through the deputy commissioner of Hojai comprising many other demands along with ST status.
