AGP, 70 organisations united against Citizenship Bill

Pratidin Bureau

The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Sunday night met the representatives of 70 organisations, which have been struggling to scrap the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 for a long time.

The Ex. Ministers of BJP-led state government senior AGP leaders Atul Bora, Keshab Mahanta and MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita took part in the meeting held in 'Hotel Nandan'- a local hotel of the city.

The delegation of the organisations sought the regional party AGP's open support to the united movement of state organizations against the controversial Bill.

"The protests against the Bill showed people's sentiments, and we should stand with the people. We do support the united movement"- said Atul Bora.

Addressing the meeting, Akhil Gogoi welcomed the AGP's decision and urged the regional party to take part in the united movement to fight the "communal and divisive" politics of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
