AGP’s massive ‘Shankhnaad’ rally in Chaygaon to oppose Citizenship Bill

Pratidin Bureau

Asom Gona Parishad (AGP) on Monday carried out a massive 'Shankhnaad' rally in Chaygaon to oppose the much debated Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

This is AGP's second Shankhnaad rally in Assam to oppose the Citizenship Bill after carrying out a similar protest rally in Bongaigaon on June 13.

All the senior AGP members carried mace (gada), shankha and bows & arrows with them during the course of the rally to show their opposition against the Citizenship Bill.

AGP President and Assam cabinet minister Atul Bora was present in the rally including another cabinet minister and senior party leader Keshab Mahanta.

"The Citizenship Bill is a threat to not only to Assam's people, but its language, culture and age old existence. No person of Assam wants to provide citizenship to people in the name of religion and will never agree to it. We keep our stand clear on the Bill," Atul Bora said.
