Arrests made in Tripura’s Sukanta Chakraborty mob-lynching case

Nine persons, including prime accused Sunil Mohan Tripura, have been arrested on Thursday in connection with the mob attack on Sukanta Chakraborty.

Sukanta Chakraborty was hired by the state government's Information and culture department to spread awareness against rumour mongers in rural areas. On June 28, he was returning from Kalcherra village after campaigning against child-lifting scare when he was attacked by a mob and killed.

Four police personnel in connection with the case have been suspended. The four personnel included one Assistant Sub-Inspector and two workers of the Tripura State Rifles.

Prime accused Sunil Mohan was arrested on Thursday from Sabroom in South Tripura. Hiren Tripura, another accused was arrested from the student hostel of a college in the same district early on Friday.

On a related note, the same day also witnessed the brutal mob killings of a woman and a hawker on the suspicion of being child-lifters.
