Asom Sahitya Sabha to organize convention on Citizenship Bill

Pratidin Bureau

Assam's apex literary body Asom Sahitya Sabha has announced that they will hold a convention on May 27 on the much debated Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Guwahati.

A source in the Sabha informed, "The convention will be organised to seek suggestions from various organisations and individuals to oppose the bill. We believe that the bill will destroy the age-old harmony among various religious communities in the state. We have been opposing the bill and continue to oppose it".

"In the convention the Sabha will also raise some crucial issues such as introduction of Assamese script in the Unicode consortium and measures to be taken for strengthening the mother tongues of various communities and state's official languages," the source added.

The meet will be held at 10 AM in Guwahati's district library.
