Assam BJP gears up for Bypolls

Notwithstandingthe huge majority it got in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha elections, theBJP's poll managers of Assam BJP have now focused their attention on the bypolls.

Asper reports, the bypolls for Rangapara, Ratabari, Jania and Sonari assemblyseats will be held within two months.

Thefour legislators, who got elected to Lok Sabha in the recent parliamentarypolls, resigned from the Assam Legislative Assembly membership.

BJP frontal body hasn't decided the candidates' list yet, however the body will hold a meeting soon to finalise candidates based strictly on their "winnability", unwilling to take any chances.

In Jania constituency, a total of 34 candidates willingto contest the election on BJP tag, 25 candidates from Sonari, 11 candidates fromRangapara and there are 9 strong ticket contenders from Ratabari.

TheBJP's core committee will meet soon to finalise the list of candidates to befielded in the bypolls, according to the BJP Assam Pradesh president RanjitKumar Das.

"Thereare several aspirants in the four constituencies and they have applied forparty ticket. We have received maximum applications from Jania," he said, whiletalking to presspersons here on Monday.
