Pratidin Bureau

The Assam BJP on Wednesday onceagain lashed out at the coordinator for the National Register of Citizens(NRC), Prateek Hajela and said that the party wants a fair NRC. "We want a fairNRC for Assam, but Hajela wants to get rid of his duties by simply completingthe NRC process," said State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass in Guwahati.

"We wanted re-verification onlyto ensure that not a single genuine Indian is left out of NRC or any illegalgets entry, but Hajela went forward on his own to do what he claims asre-verification of 27 per cent of the names," added Dass.

It may be mentioned here thatbased on Hajela's report, the Supreme Court had turned down a request by theCentre and Assam Government to re-verify 20 per cent names of the draft NRC,particularly in districts bordering Bangladesh.

Addressing the media, the StateBJP president further informed that Union Home Minister and BJP Nationalpresident Amit Shah will visit flood-affected Assam on August 10-11.
