Assam celebrates Lachit Diwas

Assam celebrates Lachit Diwas on Sunday at various parts of the State honoring the memory of Ahom general Lachit Borphukan, who defeated the Mughal army on the banks of the Brahmaputra in the Battle of Saraighat in 1671.

Various events are beingorganised across the State in remembrance of the legendary warrior.

On the occasion, ChiefMinister Sarbananda Sonowal tweeted, "The undaunted spirit of Lachit Barphukanis an inspiration for every Assamese. His valour & brilliance in warstrategy are etched in golden letters in the nation's history."

Lachit Divas is also beingcelebrated at Jorhat's Lachit Borphukan Maidam.
