TheCentre has withdrawn 10,000 paramilitary personnel deployed in Assam before thepublication of the final NRC on August 31, officials said.

Officials said that the decision to withdraw the paramilitary forces was taken as no violence has been reported in the state after the publication of the NRC, which validates bonafide Indian citizens of the northeastern state. However, 19 lakh names have been excluded from the final NRC.

Accordingto an official from the Ministry of Home department, the decision was taken onAugust 19 to deploy 218 companies of paramilitary forces in the state formaintenance of law and order situation ahead of the publication of the finalNRC.

A review has been carried by the home ministry on Friday on the prevailing situation of the state, and after the review, the decision has been taken to withdraw 100 companies of paramilitary forces with immediate effect.

According to a report, out of the 100 companies of the paramilitary forces, 50 belong to the BSF, 10 CRPF, 16 ITBP and 24 SSB. A company of a paramilitary force comprises around 100 personnel.

Ithas been directed to the troops to return to their respective bases prior tothe deployment in the state.
