Assam COVID-19 Tally Breaches 17000 Marks

Assam crossed 17000 marks of COVID-19 after 1001 new cases have been detected on Monday night. Out of 1001, 513 patients have been detected from Guwahati itself, informed state health and family welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through his twitter handle.

With the new cases, the total number of infected patients climbed to 17807 with 6348 active cases while 11416 patients have been recovered from the disease.

Meanwhile, 40 patients have succumbed to the deadly virus in the state.

The minister in his tweet said, "Alert ~ 1001 new #COVID19 ve+ patients in Assam, 513 in Guwahati alone. Keep patience & take required precautions. Don't panic, for this too shall pass!"

Notably, Guwahati has been the worst affected in the disease and the health department has said that community transmission started in Kamrup (M).

The Kamrup (M) district administration has extended the lockdown for another week from July 13-19 in order to prevent any further spread of the disease with some relaxations like the house to house sale of fish/meat, e-commerce activities, selling of vegetables, the opening of grocery shops etc from Monday to Friday during a stipulated time period.
