Assam Floods: 896 Villages Submerged Under Water in Barpeta

The flood situation turns grim in Assam as nearly 25 districts have been affected by the flood due to heavy rain. In Barpeta district, 896 villages have been submerged underwater leaving more than 3 lakhs people affected in the flood.

Moreover, a total of 25,133 hectares of agricultural land are submerged under water.

Meanwhile, the flood claimed lives of 24 people in the state and over 13 lakh people affected, as per the data of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.

The data said that a population of 13,16,927 have been affected in flood.

The National Disaster Response Force and the Assam State Disaster Response Force personnel, along with local administration, are continuously working to rescue the affected people and are providing relief services, including the distribution of relief material to the affected villagers.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has also directed Deputy Commissioners of all the affected districts to address the needs of the flood-hit people urgently while adhering to COVID-19 safety protocols.
