With each passing day, the flood situation in Assam is only turned serious. Heavy and incessant rains in the state and the neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan more than 62,000 people have been affected across various districts.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 145 villages are under water and 3,435 hectares of crop areas have been damaged.

However, there are no hopes of situation getting any better sooner as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain in the state in the next few days.

People have been worst affected in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Barpeta, Chirang, Golaghat, Jorhat and Dibrugarh districts.

Several embankments have been breached; while roads and bridges have been damaged at various places in the above districts

With rising water level, erosion have also taken toll at various places.

Rivers such as Brahmaputra, Dhansiri, Jia Bharali, Puthimari, Subansiri, Aai and Beki are flowing above the danger level, informed ASDMA.
