Assam Floods: Over 6 lakh affected across 20 districts

Over six lakh people have been severely affected in the devastating flood situation triggered by incessant rain across Assam.

So far, around 1100 villages in 20 districts including Dhemaji, Barpeta, Chirang, Nalbari, Goalpara, Jorhat, Majuli, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur among others are submerged in flood waters, said a report published by the ASDMA on Saturday evening.

Dhemaji district is the worst-hit with over 1, 28, 990 people being affected, followed by Barpeta with 1,28, 535.

Around 46,000 hectares of crop lands have been severely damaged.

The government has set up 92 relief camps and distribution centres where 8,474 are sheltered. Two deaths have been reported.

The flood triggered areas have had embankments breached and massive erosions along with road damages in several places in Barpeta, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Baksa, Sivasagar, Udalguri, Tinsukia and Nagaon.

Bridges have been damaged in Barpeta and Charaideo districts.
