The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) rescued an orphaned Assamese girl who was held captive and forced to work without pay at a posh house in North West Delhi's Ashok Vihar area.

TheDCW 181 women helpline was informed about the 17-year old girl by anunidentified person.

Thecomplainant said that the minor was held captive and forced to work in adverseconditions without pay. It was also informed by the complainant that the girlhad an uncle living in Delhi and gave his number for correspondence.

However, the minor was not found on the address given by the uncle, but she was found in a nearby house.

When the girl was asked by DCW, she said that she hails from Tezpur and that she lost her father six years ago and her mother two years back. She was lured into a high paying job in Punjab by a boy from the same village.

Shefurther stated that the boy brought her to Punjab and sold her to a Delhi-basedplacement agency who sent her for domestic work to a couple's house in AshokVihar where she was promised to be paid a salary of Rs. 10,000 per month.

Thegirl also claimed that whenever she expressed her discomfort about working atthe couple's place, she was threatened that she would be pushed intoprostitution if she refused to work.  

Acase was registered at Ashok Vihar police station and the investigation hasbeen started by police.
