Koinadhara, the state guest house used by former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for almost 18 years will now be the new Governor's House to be used temporarily as the Raj Bhawan will go for renovation work.

Reconstruction and repairing work in the guest house are in full swing as Professor Jagadish Mukhi will shift to the guest house in Khanapara for a few months.

A new look is being given to the iconic Koinadhora with painting and civil jobs. All the interiors are being freshly done at a war footing as the deadline for handover is 15 June.

Congress's top leader, Tarun Gogoi during his tenure as Assam chief minister stayed for 18 years at Koinadhora. After him, the next chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal chose to stay at the Brahmaputra Guest House at Kharguli Hill, Uzan Bazar from 2016-21.

After his party suffered crushing defeat in 2016 assembly polls, Gogoi had been staying in State guest house atop Koinadhara Hill for his new house in the cabinet colony was not ready.

Neighbouring Meghalaya also claimed that Koinadhara is located on a piece of land which belonged to Meghalaya and is located on the small hillock falls Khanapara –Pilangakata.
