Modi-Godhra role in Assam text book attracts FIR

Assam's Class XII Text Book of Political science said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was silent during the Godhara crisis and that  was enough to provoke Modi supporters to file a FIR in Assam's Golaghat district against three distinguished professors of political science who co-authored the book.

An FIR had been lodged at the Golaghat Sadar Police Station on Thursday against three text book authors and well-known publisher group Assam Book Depot. Reportedly, the authors of the Class 12 Political science text book (Assamese) which  "allegedly blamed" the PM Narendra Modi for his "silence" during the 2002 Gujarat riots.

The authors of the text book  are Durga Kanta Sharma (retired HoD, Arya Vidyapeeth College), Rafiq Jaman (retired HoD, Goalpara College) and Manash Protim Baruah (HoD, South Kamrup College).

In the page no 376 of the book, it is mentioned that then Chief minister Modi was silent over the issue of killing of 57 Muslims, including women and children in a compartment of Sabarmati Express at Godhra Railway Station.

The two complainants — Soumitra Goswami and Manav Jyoti Bora — said the writers and publishers were trying to mislead the students by giving "false information" about the incident and demanded withdrawal of the textbook from circulation.

Police have already registered a case (No 698/18 under section 158(a), 505 and 34 of IPC).
