Assam police has been ramping up its fight against human trafficking, drugs and cattle smuggling in the state since the formation of the new government.

On Sunday, Sonitpur police, Biswanath police and Itanagar police jointly rescued a 7-year-old girl from a human trafficking racket in Arunachal Pradesh's Daporiju district.

Three traffickers have been arrested in connection to the case. They were identified as Irfan Khan of Dakshin Morangaon (Borgang) in Biswanath Chariali , Irfan Sanu and Ashish of Dhekiajuli.

A case has been filed against the trio under section 363/366(A)/371/34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

As per a report, two more accused are still on the run and efforts are on to nab them.

"The search is on to nab another associate veteran trafficker Ashis Panika @ Babu of Biswanath chariali & the buyer of the trafficked child," Sonitpur police tweeted.

Police report says the minor girl was sold to a lady named Parbati Dupit in Itanagar for Rs 1.2 lakh before being sent to Daporiju for domestic works.

Further, Sonitpur police has urged parents to be aware of their children's whereabouts and not fall prey to human traffickers.
