Assam Sahitya Sabha prepares Language policy

Fearing a drastic decline in the percentage of Assamese speakers in Assam in the 2021 census, apex literary body Assam Sahitya Sabha today prepared the language policy.

"The Assam Sahitya Sabha believes that by 2021 census, the Assamese speaking people would decline by 25-30 per cent if steps are not taken on time", said President of Assam Sahitya Sabha, Paramananda Rajbongshi.

After holding a meeting with the seven literary bodies of different ethnic communities of the State, the Sabha the language policy that ensures due status to Assamese and other mother tongues spoken in the State to preserve and promote them.

A report was submitted to the state government regarding the policy on August 7th by the Sabha.

Paramananda Rajbongshi submitted a report on the policy to Assam Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya. He also appealed the chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal to approve the policy in the cabinet.
