Assam: State BJP Chief Urges People to Celebrate Green Diwali

Pratidin Bureau

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh President Bhabesh Kalita on Monday urged the people of the state to celebrate Diwali only by lighting earthen lamp rather than to burn crackers.

While speaking to media, the BJP President said that people should celebrate green diwali.

While asking about the rising prices of mustard oil, he said that prices are rising but people will never leave to celebrate the festival of light. He said, "If someone have lighten 50 earthen lamps earlier, this year they would lit 10 diyas but the celebration will be on."

This is not the first that the Assam BJP president made such bizarre statements.

Earlier, he had said that he will urge the state government to consider tripling on two-wheelers after petrol touched sky-rocketing prices.

"When petrol prices touch Rs 200, the state government can be approached for permission to allow tripling on two-wheelers," he had earlier said.

The Assam BJP chief further said that people should avoid using cars and instead opt for tripling on two-wheelers to counter high prices of petrol and diesel.
