Assam’s Niraj Chetri Martyred in Jharkhand

Assam's Niraj Chetri, a Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawan, was martyred on Sunday (June 2, 2019) in an ambush with Maoist at Kathalia village in Jharkhand's Dumka district.

Niraj Chetri joined SSB in 2014 and was a resident of Kaoripathar Karibil Nepali village in Gohpur.

It may be mentioned here that the Maoists attacked a joint team of SSB and Jharkhand police.

SSB commandant Sanjay Gupta said that apart from Niraj Chetri's death, another SSB personnel Constable Rajesh Rai was also seriously injured in the attack and has been airlifted to Ranchi while three other soldiers are being treated at a government hospital in Dumka.

Sources informed in the ambush, some Maoists are also believed to be have been killed but the exact number could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.

It may be mentioned here that Maoists on May 28 had triggered a series of blasts in Seraikela-Kharsawan district of Jharkhand that injured 26 security personnel
