Assembly: Congress MLAs stage protest against CAB

A day after the UnionCabinet cleared the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) for tabling in the Parliament,the Congress MLAs on Thursday staged a protest inside the Assam Assembly campusduring the ongoing winter session, demanding immediate scrapping of the bill.

The Congress MLAs led by Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia staged the protest and shouted various slogans inside the assembly complex. "The Centre is violating the constitutional provisions by trying to pass a bill, which is unconstitutional and against the fundamental principles of Article 14 of the constitution," said Congress MLA Rakibul Hussain.

Earlier, the MLAs of the Opposition parties had staged a walkout from the Assembly on the first day of the winter session and had staged a protest demanding the cancellation of the Question Hour and holding a discussion on Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
