Atul Bora urges CM to take the side of people

Pratidin Bureau

After returning from New Delhi, AGP president Atul Bora addressed a press conference on Tuesday. Bora got emotional during the Press Conference.

He emotionally said that they had failed to get any positive response from CM Sarbananda Sonowal regarding the Citizenship Bill.

"Our party repeatedly reminded Sonowal that if timely action is not taken, the Assamese people would become a minority in their own land."

"AGP had sought an appointment with Sonowal to discuss on the Bill, but CM Sonowal didn't give appointment."

"AGP fought against the Bill till the end but when we came to know that the centre is going to pass the Bill in Parliament, we broke alliance with the party.

Bora said that "My mother repeatedly urged me to take the side of the greater Assamese community as people are opposing it tooth and nail and atlast I did this."

"After the breakup with BJP, my mother telephoned me and said emotionally 'Well done my boy" – said Bora.

"Sonowal is our teammate during the time of Assam Agitation. I have seen the picture of my mother in Sonowal's mother. Therefore, I want to urge Sonowal that he should stand with his eyes closed in front of the photograph of his mother and ask her opinion on the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016." – Bora added.
