Baby Found Abandoned in Kamakhya railway station

A newborn was found abandoned in Capital express train on Thursday.

The baby was spotted by a passenger boarding the train at Kamakhya Railway station following which Railway Protection Force (RPF) was informed.

The officers then admitted the child to a nearby hospital for a check up.

The baby is healthy and will be shifted to a child care unit, informed RPF officer.

The incident was reported this morning after which the baby was handed over to RPF.

"A case has been registered against the accused under section 317 (exposure and abandonment of child under twelve years) of the Indian Penal Code.

RPF is probing the case and scanning CCTV footage for possible leads.

The baby was admitted to railway hospital in Maligaon.

The baby is under observation and is healthy. RPF is looking after the baby.

As per Child Welfare Commission (CWC) directives, the baby may be shifted to a government child care.
