Baghjan Suicide: Rs 20 lakh & jobs

The family of Baghan suicide victim Sukleshwar neog will receive Rs 20 lakh immediate compensation besides another compensation for the property damage for the Baghjan fire.

His suicide triggered massive protest by the people of Baghjan on Saturday and Sunday holding 200 top executives and Capping experts in the Baghjan 5 well til middle of the night.

A compensation package by OIL was announced late last night following hard negotiation between the people of Baghkan and OIl authorities.

The body of the deceased was cremated on Sunday evening at 8 pm only after Oil India Limited assured to provide a compensation package that the family demanded.

The compensation package includes:

  1. Rs 10 -Oil India Limited
  2. Rs 5 lakh -Government of Assam
  3. Rs 5 lakh- Education expenses of all daughters.
  4. A job in Oil India Limited for the girl child
  5. Besides property damage compensation

The deceased Sukleshwar Neog was reportedly distraught over OIL not determining the compensation for the people affected by the Baghjan Fire. Although his property was damaged his house was not damaged. hence did not receive the Rs 20 lakh payout given to 16 families.

Meanwhile, the capping operation of the well has resumed from Monday morning and 4-5 days are expected for final operation.
