A teenage girl at Barpeta's  Dangarkuchi fell off in Palla River on Thursday.

Reportedly, the teenage girl fell off the Dangarkuchi bridge and has been missing.

The young girl has been identified as Riya Malakar.  She is a resident of Sonkuchi Colony, Barpeta and a candidate of HSLC examination this year.

As reported, Riya was returning from her aunt's house at Pakabetbari  in a bicycle when she fell into the river along with her cycle from the bridge.

Although a group of men went in search of the girl, she had already drowned in the river even before the search operation was carried out, locals said.

While Riya was riding the bicycle, her mother was travelling in an e-rickshaw when the incident took place.

As told by the mother, Riya had to take the bicycle due to lack of money.

Meanwhile, a search operation is underway by the Barpeta police and SDRF team to recover the body.
