Bhubaneswar Confirms Resignation From Party

Pratidin Bureau

Senior Congress leader Bhubaneswar Kalita has resigned from Congress party on Monday over his party's stand on Kashmir issue.

"Today I feel that this is not the Congress that I had joined decades back and the present scenario is worrisome. My conscience does not allow me to be a part of such negative developments and still continue in the Congress Party." Kalita said.

Kalita resigned from the membership of the Upper House on the same day citing opposition to the stand taken by his party on the Kashmir issue.

"The Congress has asked me to issue a whip regarding the Kashmir issue. However, the truth is that country's opinion has changed and this whip is against the people's wish….. I will not follow this whip and so I am resigning from the Congress," Kalita said in his purported resignation letter.
