Birendra Prasad Baishya to be AGP’s candidate in RS Elections

AGPwill field senior party leader Birendra Prasad Baishya for the Rajya Sabha. AGPpresident on Sunday said, "As per our Rayja Sabha election committee, BirendraPrasad Baishya will be our candidate."

Baishyawas elected in the 1996 Lok Sabha election from Mangaldoi constituency and was UnionMinister of Steel and Mines. He was an MP of Rajya Sabha from 2008 to 2014.

Earlier, Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that BJP has decided to share one seat with AGP in the upcoming Rajya Sabha Elections. The decision was taken during a meeting with BJP president Amit Shah in Delhi. "The remaining seat will be contested by a BJP candidate," said Himanta.

The election for the two Rajya Sabha seats will be held on 7th June. The last date for filing nominations is 28th May, while scrutiny of the nominations will be held on 29th May.
